PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and surely-operatable solenoid in which a basic solenoid structure is used in common, parts to be combined therewith are formed into a subassembly according to an application so that the subassembly can be exchangeably combined with the basic solenoid structure, to thereby reduce the number of assembling steps largely and reduce the cost by commonalization of the parts. SOLUTION: The solenoid S comprises a coil assembly 1, a fixed iron-core assembly 2 and a movable iron-core 18. In the coil assembly 1, a bobbin 11 with an exciting coil wound around a cylinder portion 11a having a through hole 11b is provided inside a yoke 12. In the fixed iron-core assembly 2, flat-plate yokes 16a, 16b arranged opposite to the side face of a flange portion 11c of the bobbin 11 and a permanent magnet for self-retention 15 are secured to a yoke cover 13 located on the side face of the flange portion 11c of the bobbin 11, and a fixed iron core 14 arranged in the through hole 11b is secured. The movable iron core 18 can be received slidably in the through hole to oppose to the fixed iron core. The solenoid valve is constituted in such a manner that a valve element 51 is provided on the solenoid S via a guide block 40 which always guides the movable iron core 18.
