A joint construction 10 comprises a housing 20 having a central cavity 22 which has an opening 26 at one end; a stud member 38 extending through the opening and having a head section 40 disposed Within the cavity, said head section having a frusto-conical portion 46 and a hemispherical portion 42, first 60 and second 62 seat members disposed with in the cavity for supporting the head section of the stud member, the first seat member being engaged with the hemispherical portion of the head section for limiting axial and angular movements of the stud member relative to the housing; and closure means 90 closing the cavity in the housing, means being provided compressed within the cavity for urging the first seat member into engagement with the hemispherical portion of the head section of the stud. As shown in Fig. 2, the means compressed into the cavity comprises an axially extending resilient portion of the first seat member. In another embodiment, an annular ramp portion projects upwardly from the top of the first seat member. The top of the seat member 60 is formed with an upwardly projecting ramp which is compressed by the closure means. The seat member 60 may be constructed of a synthetic rubber material, e.g. urethane, and the seat member 62 of synthetic polymer bearing material, e.g. Delrin (trade mark) or nylon. The first seat member may have a plurality of lubricant-retaining grooves adjacent to the head section of the stud member. |
