Anti-abrasion coating for tools

A machine tool has a cutting edge that has an anti-wear coating consisting of a metallic component and a non-metallic component. The metallic component incorporates aluminium, 1-40%chrome, 2-25% titanium and 0.5 to 4% yttrium. These figures refer to the metallic atomic percentage in the material. The non-metallic portion incorporates nitrogen and oxygen in the form of an oxynitride with 1-10% nitrogen and 1-8% oxygen.
