The present invention discloses a method and apparatus (200) for audibly indicating when a predetermined location has been encountered in stored data (400). A predetermined location is first identifi ed in the stored data (400). An audible indicator or prompt associated with the predetermined location is then generated when a predetermined location is encountered. The audible prompt indicates a variety of information, including end of all audio, beginning of a program (410), end of a program (410), and begining of a section (408).
