The device has acquisition units (11, 13) for acquiring variables significant of vehicle speed and acceleration specified by a driver, respectively. A control unit (15) is connected to the acquisition units and has a driver interface (21) for calculating a wheel torque according to the vehicle speed and acceleration. The control unit calculates a gearing reduction ratio based on the wheel torque, to calculate an engine torque.
