PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of a heat exchanger and a heat exchanger, restraining the quantity of fluid to be treated discarded when the heat exchanger stops. SOLUTION: According to the control method of the heat exchanger, the fluid to be treated flowing through a fluid passage provided in a heat exchange medium passage is cooled by the heat exchange medium flowing through the heat exchange medium passage. The control method of the heat exchanger is characterized in that abnormality of the heat exchanger is detected by an abnormality detecting means, and according to the detection of the abnormality, the heat exchange medium is discharged from the heat exchange medium passage.
