OPTICAL ELEMENT, OPTICAL DEFLECTION ELEMENT, OPTICAL DEFLECTOR, IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE, AND METHOD FOR FORMING RESISTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which is constructed so as to manufacture a resistor which imparts a desired electric potential necessary for controlling a liquid crystal to a plurality of electrodes mounted on a substrate to hold a liquid crystal layer, at a low cost and in large quantities.

SOLUTION: In the optical element which has the liquid crystal layer 1, the substrate 2 to hold the liquid crystal layer, the plurality of electrodes 3 mounted on the substrate, and the resistor 4 to electrically connect the plurality of electrodes, and imparts desired electric potentials to the plurality of electrodes 3 respectively by energizing the resistor 4 so as to control directions of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 1, the resistor 4 is an application type resistor formed by applying a material to exhibit at least a desired resistance value to the substrate 2. The application type resistor 4 is disposed outside the optical path of light passing through the liquid crystal layer 1 on the substrate. Also the application type resistor 4 is disposed on the outside of the liquid crystal layer 1 on the substrate.
