PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact lens barrel equipped with an electromagnetic motor containing a cylindrical rotor and having good positioning accuracy. SOLUTION: The lens barrel holds a lens group in a manner movable in the direction parallel to the optical axis of the lens group. The lens barrel is equipped with: a holding mechanism that holds the lens group movably in a parallel direction to the optical axis; a cylindrical stator with the optical axis as the center axis; an electromagnetic motor containing the rotor that is coaxial with the stator and cylindrical and that rotates around the center axis with respect to the stator; a transducing mechanism that transduces the rotary motion of the rotor to direct-advancing motion for the purpose of moving the lens group in a parallel direction to the optical axis by the holding mechanism; and an energizing means that energizes the rotor in the direction parallel to the optical axis by the magnetic force.
