PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll printer capable of simply performing postscript/refresh of recording paper controlling information to a recording paper roll. SOLUTION: On a core 12a of the recording paper roll 12, an IC tag 12b storing the recording paper controlling information including the manufacturing date, sensitivity information or the like of a recording paper 11, is provided. In a printer 10, an access part 46 having an access to this IC tag 12b and performing reading and writing the recording paper controlling information, is provided. A controller 21 reads the recording paper controlling information stored in the IC tag 12b through the access part 46 to make a printing condition appropriate. In addition, the access part 46 performs postscript/refresh on the date for starting of use of the recording paper roll 12, the amount of remaining of the recording paper, and environmental information (temperature and humidity in the printer). These recording paper controlling information are used for print processing, estimation of the amount of remaining of the recording paper roll 12, analysis of deterioration of the quality of the recording paper 11 or the like.
