Production of a metal locking sleeve (1) comprises cutting to length a tubular blank from a metal pipe in the form of a pipe section, and increasing or reducing the diameter of the tubular blank along part of its axial length to create a sleeve-shaped basic element with a graduated diameter. The basic element is given its final geometric shape in at least one pressing process. A gate (16) is cut into the basic element to form the locking sleeve. Preferred Features: The gate is cut into the basic element using a laser- or water jet-cutting process.
