HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE, HONEYCOMB AGGREGATE AND HONEYCOMB CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bring exhaust gas into thorough contact with catalyst ingredients so as to purify the gas efficiently.

SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure contains at least ceramic particles and an inorganic binder, and its area in contact with exhaust gas is increased by making the wall supporting catalyst ingredients 0.25 mm or thinner so as to permit thorough contact of the gas with catalyst ingredients. The thorough contact of the gas with catalyst ingredients can be also realized by meeting the relation equation (1): Y≥250×X+22,500 (50≤X≤80) (wherein Y is the specific surface area per unit volume, m2/L, and X is the numerical aperture, %). The structure may be a honeycomb structure aggregate consisting of two or more above structures joined with a sealing material layer sealed on parts of the outer surface of the structures without through openings.
