PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which the occurrence of filming on an intermediate transfer member is suppressed and the occurrence of white stripes etc., in a formed visible image can be surely suppressed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a color toner image forming means for forming the color toner image on a recording medium material by successively primarily transferring the toner images of different colors formed on a plurality of image carriers to the intermediate transfer member and secondarily transferring the color toner image formed by stacking of the toner images of the respective colors to the recording material and an intermediate transfer member cleaning means having a cleaning blade for removing the untransferred toner on the intermediate transfer member. A polishable surface on which polishable particulates are held is formed on one surface of the cleaning blade, which surface is made to abut on the intermediate transfer member.
