<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a process cartridge from failing to correctly move to a second position due to resisting force with the results that a coupling mechanism fails to be smoothly connected. <P>SOLUTION: An electrophotographic image forming apparatus to/from which the process cartridge can be attached/detached has an opening/closing cover for opening/closing an opening for detaching the process cartridge. In conjunction with the opening/closing operation of the cover, the process cartridge can be moved between a first position in which the cover is open and the process cartridge can be detached and a second position in which the cover is closed and the process cartridge becomes ready for image formation. When the process cartridge moves from the first position to the second position, one of the ends of the process cartridge is further ahead than the other in an inserted direction and thereby the process cartridge is inserted in a slant condition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
