<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a palladium-containing catalyst for producing an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid from an olefin or an α, β-unsaturated aldehyde at high selectivity, to provide a method for manufacturing the palladium-containing catalyst and a method for producing the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid at the high selectivity. <P>SOLUTION: The palladium-containing catalyst for producing the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid from the olefin or the α, β-unsaturated aldehyde contains 0.01-0.4 mole lead metal based on 1.0 mole palladium metal. The palladium-containing catalyst can be manufactured suitably by a method including a step to reduce a compound containing a palladium atom of an oxidized state and a lead atom of an oxidized state by a reducing agent. The α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid is produced by using this palladium-containing catalyst and oxidizing the olefin or the α, β-unsaturated aldehyde by molecular oxygen in a liquid phase. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
