PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain distance measurement data in a shorter time by reducing the steps of measuring the distances from a projector to a plurality of parts of a screen onto which images are to be projected. SOLUTION: The projector includes: a pair of phase difference sensors 131 and 132 for measuring the distance of a specific light-and-dark pattern in directions almost perpendicular to each other; and image storage part 31 which stores one chart image in which a plurality of specific light-and-dark patterns are arranged in directions almost perpendicular to each other; a display encoder 24 for projecting and displaying the chart image stored in the image storage part 31; a display drive part 26; a spacial light modulating element 27; a projecting system including a projection lens 12; and a control part 30 which makes a distance measuring part 33 measure, using the phase difference sensors 131 and 132, the distances of the positions of the plurality of specific light-and-image patterns in the projected chart image.
