PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printing device which can certainly deliver a printed/cut recording medium without incurring a cost increase or the enlargement of device dimensions, and a method for controlling this device. SOLUTION: The thermal transfer device conveys a belt-like recording medium to a specified cutting position after printing a part of the medium and cuts/delivers the printed part. In this device, a conveyance means which conveys the remainder of the recording medium over a specified conveyance distance (step S305) after the part of the printed medium is cut(step S303) and a reverse conveyance means which conveys the remainder of the recording medium by the same distance as the above conveyance distance in the opposite direction after the conveyance of the remainder by the conveyance means(step S306), are provided.
