A filter for filtering fluids is made by stacking two or more strips 7 to 9 of flexible material and then wrapping the stack around a centreline to form a spiral-shaped roll-form filtering element 19 that has several laps of the strips 7 to 9. The resulting element has an input side which is the bottom wall of a reservoir which contains the fluid to be filtered, such as the run-off water from a car park. The reservoir may have a by-pass outlet which bypasses the water around the element 19 in the event that the flow rate of the incoming fluid exceeds the maximum rate of flow at which the filter is efficient. The strips 7 to 9 guide the fluid as the fluid passes through the filter. <IMAGE> |
