Fabric advance mechanism (40) is under fabric support surface (41) at a sewing machine. It has an upper belt transport (10) to one side of the needle, with a belt (13) which passes around a leading and a trailing roller (11,12). At least one additional take-off roller (31) is after the needle, in the fabric advance direction, which gives a friction drive contact with the trailing belt roller. To increase the advance exerted by the fabric movement units, the additional roller has a larger diameter than the trailing belt roller.
