PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to detect an ink residual-quantity without stopping the mechanical operation of an printer by detecting the ink-residual quantity while performing the usual operation of the printer. SOLUTION: The structure for the ink residual-quantity detection is provided as the one which does not interfere with the mechanical mechanisms such as the ones for paper-feeding, conveyance and head scan, then the ink residual-quantity detecting operation is performed in parallel with the mechanical operation of the printer.
