PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean a surface of a photoreceptor drum, even if paper for wiping is comparatively small-sized, for example, A4-sized, in a tandem type image forming apparatus provided with four photoreceptor drums, in series. SOLUTION: In a state where the paper sheet 1 is stopped in contact with the 1st photoreceptor drum 31C on the upstream side, only the 1st photoreceptor drum 31C is rotated to have surface staining wiped out with the paper sheet 11. Next, in a state where the paper sheet 11 is stopped in contact with the 2nd photoreceptor drum 31M, only the 2nd photoreceptor drum 31M is rotated to have the surface staining wiped out with the paper sheet 11. Subsequently, the surface stains on the 3rd photoreceptor drum 31Y and the 4th photoreceptor drum 31B are wiped off in the same manner.
