PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide smooth stepless operation of a clutch between axles. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic actuator 102 has a static coil, a rotating multi-pole stator 130, and a rotating multi-pole armature 150 connected with the stator. Both of the stator and the armature have many electrically connected coils to form pairs. A cam or a ball lamp assembly body 104 is arranged between the armature and a friction clutch pack. When energizing the static coil, current flows in a coil of the stator and a coil of the armature, respectively. The generated magnetic flux and magnetic force rotate the armature for the stator to operate the cam or the ball ramp assembly, which compresses the friction clutch pack. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
