Process for monitoring dispensing of dispensable compositions

The present invention is directed to a process dispensing of one or more dispensable compositions, such as ink jet ink and a monitoring device used therein. The process includes reading with an interrogator current dispensable composition information disposed on identification tags affixed to reservoirs positioned in a dispensing device. The reservoirs containing the dispensable compositions and the current information is stored on a host computer in communication with a client computer of the device, or on said client computer and said host computer. The process is terminated if the current information does not match with stored dispensable composition information of the dispensable. The dispensing process is commenced if the current information matches with the stored information. The current information on the tags is then updated by using the interrogator. The updated information then becomes current information in a subsequent dispensing cycle. The process can be to ensure dispensing of compositions of approved quality. The process can be also used to control the inventory by replenishing just in time any dispensed compositions, such ink jet inks used in photographic or textile prints.
