There is provided compositions and methods for the detection and/or quantification of respiratory viruses using specific nucleic acid sequences. In particular methods and composition are provided to detect human Metapneumovirus (hMPV). The invention also provides with multiplex assays for detecting respiratory viruses in test samples.
