PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data retrieval apparatus which suppresses retrieval processing using the same search keyword so as not to impose a useless retrieval wait on a user, and to provide a method therefor. SOLUTION: The data retrieval apparatus is provided with: a data storage section 22 for storing a plurality of data; a retrieval keyword extraction section 28 for extracting a retrieval keyword from the data stored into the data storage section 22; a retrieval section 24 for retrieving data including the retrieval keyword extracted by the retrieval keyword extraction section 28 from the plurality of data stored into the data storage section 22; a retrieval history storage section 34 for correspondingly storing the retrieval keyword and specification data for specifying the data including the retrieval keyword on the basis of a result of the retrieval due to the retrieval section 24; and a retrieval management section 26 for restricting the retrieval of the data including the retrieval keyword if one or more of retrieval keywords extracted by the retrieval keyword extraction section 28 match the retrieval keyword stored in the retrieval history storage section 34.
