<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a degree of freedom of layout by providing priorities for containers of variable sizes accommodating record contents. <P>SOLUTION: At least two containers and a link for relating therebetween can be provided in a template. When generating the template, a list 1206 of priority order specified in a container set having a pointer 1202 is displayed on a template screen. At the time of preview or printing, when laying out the record with the template, in case a container cannot accommodate the data, the container size is expanded according to the content size by moving the variable side of the container having a higher priority. Next, the container having the next higher priority in the container set is either expanded or reduced within the limit of not exceeding a distance limit to the container having the higher priority. The above process is repeated for each container in order of priority.
