PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus for storing transmitted or received original data in a memory and erasing one part of the original data if residual capacity of the memory is insufficient, which compatibly both secures vacant capacity of the memory and maintains the original data to the minimum extent. SOLUTION: The communication apparatus 1 stores the transmitted or received original data into the image memory 6. The apparatus 1 is provided with: a communication management table 15 for storing the communication time/date and the number of stored sheets of the original data; a detecting means for detecting the oldest original data consisting of a plurality of pages on the basis of the communication time/date and the number of stored sheets from the original data stored in the image memory 6, when a judging means judges a residual image memory as below a predetermined level; an erasing means for performing erasing processing to erase the data after a second page of the detected original data from the image memory 6; and an updating means for updating the number of stored sheets of the original data subjected to the erasing processing.
