PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mail transmitting/receiving apparatus which is capable of stably transmitting/receiving electronic mail even if POP-before-SMTP transmission and POP3 reception are simultaneously operated. SOLUTION: A transmission account is stored in a transmission account storage area 20 (step S11), and it is decided whether or not an account stored in a reception account storage area 21 is matched with the transmission account (step S12). If they are not matched, a LAN control section 19 connects to a POP server 3, performs log-in using the transmission account, disconnects therefrom (step S13), connects to an SMTP server 4 and transmits electronic mail (step S14). If the accounts are matched, the LAN control section 19 immediately connects to the SMTP server 4 and transmits electronic mail (step S14).
