<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component sorting apparatus wherein component sorting does not fail by constraints in a component mounting machine, etc. and previous grasping of performance, etc. of each of the component mounting machine is unnecessary even when component mounting machines of various models are intermingled. <P>SOLUTION: The component sorting apparatus 200 sorts components to a production line consisting of a plurality of the component mounting machines which mount the components on a substrate. In the apparatus 200, whether components which are going to be sorted can be mounted or not is inquired to the component mounting machines 101-102 which serve as sorting places (S110), and the answer is acquired (S111). When the answer is that it can be mounted, time duration necessary for mounting the component concerned is required (S112), and the answer is acquired (S113).
