PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibration noise of a gear, especially a spur gear, by making a simple alteration in shape of the gear to relax an impact meshing in meshing transition from a tooth pair to a tooth pair and realizing the spur gear causing low vibration and low noise substantially equal to that of a helical gear. SOLUTION: In this invention, it is remarked that vibration and noise of the spur gear are caused by the simultaneous sudden appearance and dissipation of contact lines in each tooth flank in a pair of teeth newly starting to mesh with each other and a pair of teeth ending meshing. The outer peripheral part of the gear is inclined, whereby a change in length of simultaneous contact lines to a turning angle of the gear immediately after the start of meshing and immediately before the end of meshing is made gentle to reduce vibration and noise of the gear.
