PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, at low cost, an error detection device capable of detecting the abnormality of the level of a lubricating oil. SOLUTION: This error detection device for detecting the abnormality of the level of the oil in an oil pan comprises an upper limit float 24 and a lower limit float 25 having a support shaft 20 storing an upper limit switch 26 and a lower limit switch 27 and vertically movably supported on the support shaft 20. An intermediate stopper 23 is installed on the support shaft 20, and the upper limit float 24 is movable above the intermediate stopper 23, and the lower limit float 25 is movable below the intermediate stopper 23. An error detection circuit 28 is formed by two switches 26 and 27 connected in series to each other, the upper limit switch 26 is opened and closed by the vertical movement of the upper limit float 24, and the lower limit switch 27 is opened/closed by the vertical movement of the lower limit float 25. When the error detection circuit 28 is in an energized state, the lubricating oil amount is determined normal, and when the error detection circuit 28 is in an interrupted state, the lubricating oil amount is determined abnormal.
