<p>A cold gas generator has a pressure chamber filled with a compressed gas, closed by a membrane fastened to a carrier wall by a mounting edge. An external ignition unit generates a hot gas to destroy the membrane, and thus release the compressed gas. When the outer hot gas pressure builds up, the edge is forced against a supporting wall before it is destroyed. A cold gas generator has a pressure chamber (10) filled with a compressed gas, closed by a membrane (16) fastened to a carrier wall by a mounting edge. An external ignition unit (22) generates a hot gas to destroy the membrane, and thus release the compressed gas. A supporting wall bears against the inner side of the membrane to press against the mounting edge, so that when the outer hot gas pressure builds up, the edge is forced against the supporting wall before it is destroyed. The carrier wall is a separate membrane holder (32), welded to the pressure chamber holding the compressed gas container. The pressure chamber has a ring-shaped waist (40) to form the supporting wall.</p> |
