Processor with external memory

The processor has a processor core (PC) and a memory interface (MIF) for transferring data (d) between the processor (P) and an external memory (M). A coder (EC/DC) within or on the interface of the processor is provided for encoding and/or decoding the data to be transferred via the interface, as encoded data (cd). The coder may be an integral part of the processor. An Independent claim is included for an external memory for storing processor data.
