The invention concerns a ferrocene derivative useful in the catalysis of carbon-carbon and/or carbon­heteroatom bond forming reactions, the derivative having the Formula (I): or its enantiomer, wherein R<1> has 3 or more contiguous carbon atoms and a branched chain structure providing bulk to the substituent and is selected from optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl and heterocycloalkyl groups, with the exception that R<1> is not an arride, an amine, a phosphine or an ester;R<2> and R<3> are, independently, selected from optionally substítuted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl and heterocycloalkyl groups, with the exception that R<2> and R<3> are not together C4-C8 alkylene, C4-C8 alkylene substituted by C1-C4 aryl or by phenyl, or annelated C4-C8 alkylene; and R<4> is selected from hydrogen or from optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl and heterocycloalkyl groups, n is from 0 to 5, and each R<4> may be the saure or different, with the exception that no R<4> is a phosphine. The invention also provides a transition meta) complex comprising a transition metal coordinated with the ligand or Formula (I).
