WOVEN OR KNITTED FABRIC OF POLYESTER FIBER HAVING WATER ABSORPTION PROPERTY/QUICK-DRYING PROPERTY AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a woven or knitted fabric of polyester having both of the water absorption property and the quick-drying property without impairing mechanical properties and color fastness to dyeing which polyester fibers have originally and suitable for producing comfortable clothes and to provide a method for producing the woven or knitted fabric. SOLUTION: The woven or knitted fabric of polyester fiber having a water absorption property/a quick-drying property is produced through a step for forming many streak-like holes orientated in the fiber axis direction on the surface of polyester fiber by applying an aqueous solution of an alkali containing 1-10 wt.% alkaline substance so that the concentration of the alkaline substance becomes 1-10 wt.% based on the polyester fiber and carrying out volume-reducing processing with an alkali so that the volume-reducing ratio becomes 2-10% by carrying out dry-heat treatment or wet heat treatment of the woven or knitted fabric and a step for applying a hydrophilic agent to the polyester fiber by treating the woven or knitted fabric of polyester fiber in which the streak-like holes are formed with a treating liquid containing the hydrophilic agent.
