PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking press felt good in water squeezing, excellent in surface smoothness of the wet paper, and having a good compressibility by pressurization, recovery ratio and its persistence, especially suitable for high speed running. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the papermaking press felt comprising a plurality of base materials and a fiber web layered on the base materials and integrally entwined therewith by needling, wherein at least one of the base materials is a woven fabric including a warp and a weft, such that at least one thereof is a twist yarn made from a filament having a fineness of 50 to 250 dtex, and the other thereof is a filament yarn having a fineness of 50 to 600 dtex. The papermaking press apparatus uses the felt. The papermaking press felt, wherein the woven fabric is woven with an end portion thereof closed by constituting either one of the warp or weft constituting the woven fabric as a solvent soluble filament and eliminating the yarn by dissolving with the solvent, and the felt is excellent in surface smoothness and flatting resistance. The papermaking press felt is especially suitable for closed draw type paper press apparatus for papermaking which squeezes the wet paper by interleaving with two felts. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
