PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an aluminum alloy sheet for a lithographic printing plate, in which a satisfactory rough face is given in electrolytic etching. SOLUTION: An aluminum alloy comprising 0.1 to 0.5% Fe, 0.01 to 0.15% Si and 5 to 180 ppm Cu, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities is cast, is thereafter, without performing homogenizing treatment, subjected to soaking at≤500°C and hot rolling at≤500°C, and is further subjected to cold rolling. The surface layer part of the aluminum alloy sheet is composed of a metastable phase-dispersed layer in which Al-Fe based intermetallic compound grains of a metastable phase are dispersed. In the dispersed layer, intermetallic compound grains of≥0.1μm are dispersed by≥5,000 pieces/mm<SP>2</SP>in the facial direction, and among the grains, the grains with a size of 0.1 to 1.0μm are occupied≥20% in amount. In electrolytic etching, a rough surface in which pits are uniformly formed can be obtained with less non-etched parts. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
