Coated material for ink jet printing has a coating containing (wt.%) over 0.1% polyvinyl acetal(s) (I), obtained by reacting a mixture of (A) 50.0-99.99 parts weight (pw) polymer(s) with 1.0-99.9% alcohol units, 0-99.0% ester units and 0-70.0% (substituted) alkylene units and (B) 0.01-50.0 pw polyalkylene glycol or its monoether with (C) aldehyde, ketone and/or keto-acid compound(s), using 0.0005-0.5 mole (C)/mole total hydroxyl groups in (A) and (B). Coated material for ink jet printing has a coating containing (wt.%) over 0.1% polyvinyl acetal(s) (I), which is obtained by reacting a mixture of (A) 50.0-99.99 parts weight (pw) polymer(s) containing (a) 1.0-99.9% alcohol units of formula (1), (b) 0-99.0% ester units of formula (2) and (c) 0-70.0% (substituted) alkylene units of formula (3) and (B) 0.01-50.0 pw polyalkylene glycol or its monoether of formula (4) with (C) aldehyde, ketone and/o keto-acid compound(s) of formula (5), using 0.0005-0.5 mole (C)/mole total hydroxyl (OH) groups in (A) and (B): (Structures (1-5), pages 18-19) R1 = H or methyl; R2, R7 = H or 1-6 C alkyl; R3, R4, R5, R6 = groups with a molecular weight of 1-500 g/mole; R8 = H or 1-10 C alkyl; n = more than 2; and R9, R10 = H, COOH, 1-10 C alkyl or (substituted) 6-12 C aryl. An Independent claim is also included for production of the material by applying a formulation containing polyvinyl acetal(s) (I) to the material by means of blades, rollers, sizing or film presses or a non-contact application process. |
