FIELD EMISSION STRUCTURE EQUIPPED WITH FOCUSING PROJECTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve resolution and color purity of a display device by focusing emitted electron beams.

SOLUTION: A gate control type field emission structure comprises an emitter electrode (46), an electric insulating layer (48) to form the upper layer, and one or two or more electron emitting elements (52) installed in one or two or more aperture portions extended penetrating this insulating layer. The electron emitting elements are exposed through gate electrodes (50) in pattern which form a further upper layer of the insulating layer. The focusing projections (54) are installed on the insulating layer at both ends interposing the gate electrodes. The focusing projections extend higher than the normal gate electrodes and play a role of converging the emitted electrons on a narrow band.
