PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve voltage impression efficiency to the phosphor portion of the luminous layer and improve luminous efficiency in an electroluminescent element having a structure of dispersed type pattern. SOLUTION: In the electroluminescent element 20 having a structure of dispersed type pattern, a great number of electroluminescent particles comprising a dielectric core and a phosphor coated layer are dispersed in a dielectric binder and the luminous layer 26 is formed. When a voltage is impressed on the element 20, the average electric field strength impressed on the phosphor layer of the great number of electroluminescent particles is made to be 1.5 times or more of the average electric field strength impressed on the whole luminous layer 26.
