<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal regenerating repeater capable of regenerating an optical communication signal, while minimizing the occurrence of a bit errors, even in general cases wherein the mark levels and space levels form an asymmetrical distribution for inputted optical signal intensity (probability density). <P>SOLUTION: The optical signal regenerating repeater has an optical gate part 3, which obtains a regenerated optical communication signal, by transferring data to controlled light according to opening and closing of a gate, while optical communication signal pulses received as an input optical communication signal are used as control signal to open and close the gate and clock optical pulses are also supplied as continuous light as the controlled light. The optical gate part 3 has a function of compressing the intensity distribution of the input light for a binary level and the optical gate part 3 is so set that an optical identification threshold with respect to the input optical communication signal nearly agrees with the separation border line of the compression of the intensity distribution. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
