PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight apparatus which does not generate irregularity of brightness even if it is adopted for a large-sized liquid crystal display etc., and has excellent power efficiency also. SOLUTION: In a fluorescent tube lighting device in which a pair of inverter circuits for driving a plurality of fluorescent tubes by applying a voltage to both ends of each of the fluorescent tubes are formed on respective substrates, the respective inverters of the pair of inverter circuits are arranged adjacent to both ends of the respective fluorescent tubes to drive the fluorescent tubes. At least one group of inverter circuits disposed on the same one side of the fluorescent tubes adjacent to each other in the aligned direction of the fluorescent tubes are connected to synchronized to each other.
