PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly precise image quality of printing by detecting highly precisely the defect of the nozzle and certifying surely no existence of the defect of the nozzle in a line head type inkjet printer. SOLUTION: In a line type inkjet printer constituted so that when the defect of the nozzle is solved, a head unit is moved from a printing region to a maintenance region, an ink droplet confirming region is provided in a head unit moving path between the printing region and the maintenance region. A detecting part for detecting inferiority of discharging of the nozzle is provided in the ink droplet confirming region, and the nozzle is maintained based on the detecting result by the detecting part. The inferiority of discharging of the nozzle is detected by the detecting part on the maintained head unit. A controlling means judging whether the head unit is maintained again based on the detecting result, and controlling movement of the head unit and action of the detecting part in accordance with the detecting result, is provided.
