PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel carbon nanotube formed by introducing (bonding ) a fluorine functional group into the surface of a carbon nanotube having functions of biological activity, conductivity, water repellency, oil repellency, lubricity or the like and remarkably useful as a medicine, an electronic device or a functional material and a method of manufacturing the high purity novel carbon nanotube industirally advantageously without using harmful gas. SOLUTION: The carbon nanotube has perfluoro alkyl group bonded on the surface and is manufactured by reacting the carbon nanotube with perfluoro azoalkane expressed by following general formula (1) under the irradiation with ultraviolet ray.
