<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate device having unconstrained appearance and opened and closed easily, safely, and smoothly. <P>SOLUTION: This gate device comprises a folding door type gate 2 formed by pivotally supporting a second door 2b on a first door 2a pivotally supported on a gatepost 1, a column 3 vertically installed at a position apart from the heelpost 1 in the extension direction of a passage closed by the gate 2, a rail 6 horizontally hung between the gatepost 1 and the column, a mobile body 7 engaged with the rail rotatably around the vertical axis and movably in the longitudinal direction of the rail, an arm 9 having one end joined to the vertical axis of the mobile body, and a slide rail 11 having two rails 11a and 11b slidably joined to each other in the longitudinal direction.
