<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the energy efficiency by suppressing losses of the energy circulation and a motor, and iron losses. <P>SOLUTION: In the power output device, a motor MG1 is connected to a sun gear 31 of a first planetary gear P1, a gear mechanism 66 is connected to a ring gear 32, a crankshaft 26 of an engine 22 is connected to a carrier 34, a motor MG2 is connected to a sun gear 36 of a second planetary gear P2, a ring gear 32 is connected to a ring gear 37, and an acceleration gear 40 is connected to a carrier 39, respectively. The acceleration gear 40 is connected to the crankshaft 26 of the engine 22 via a clutch C1, and the carrier 39 is connected to a case via a brake B1. In the power output device, an automobile travels with the clutch C1 in an uncoupled condition and the brake B1 in an ON state in a regular state, and when the motor MG1 is rotated in a reverse direction and the energy circulation is generated, the energy circulation is suppressed with the clutch C1 ON and the brake B1 OFF, and the number of rotation of the motor MG2 is reduced.
