PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving performance of an image forming processing and to provide an erasing method. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is provided with a hardware resource to be used in the image formation process, a program for performing the process relating to the image formation, and a hard disk for storing the information including the image. It has features that the erase information for showing whether the erase of divided areas is executed or not for every divided area which the hard disk is divided into a plurality of areas, the grouped erase information which a plurality of erase information are grouped, the erase counting information to be decided on the basis of the grouped erase information, an erase judging means for judging whether the divided area to be erased exists or not in the plurality of divided areas corresponding to the grouped erase information, by which the erase count information is decided, and an erasing means for executing the erase of the divided area corresponding to the erase information on the basis of the erase information corresponding to the plurality of divided areas which the existence of the divided area to be erased is judged by the erase judging means.
