PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tetraarylphosphonium halide in high yield under a mild condition from triarylphosphine and an aryl halide. SOLUTION: The tetraarylphosphonium halide is produced by reacting the triarylphosphine with the aryl halide by using a metal halide such as nickel chloride as a catalyst and N, N-dimethylformamide as a reaction solvent, preferably at a temperature of 130°C or more to less than 150°C.
