In a mobile telephone network, an alphanumeric originator identity can be displayed o the call recipient's terminal, without any requirement for the recipient to have pre­s red the originator's identity. This can be achieved by the network sending the alphanumeric identity separately from the voice call or text message, such as via USSD.
