PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit increase of fuel injection quantity required at starting time of a compression ignition internal combustion engine and inhibit aggravation of emission and dilution of oil. SOLUTION: In the compression ignition internal combustion engine 1 equipped with normal fuel injection valve 3 for injecting fuel into a gas column of the internal combustion engine at a period of vicinity of top dead center of a compression stroke and a premixed combustion fuel injection valve 9a for injecting atomized fuel finer than fuel injected from the normal fuel injection valve to a center part of the gas column, premixed gas is formed by fuel injection from the premixed fuel injection valve 9a when starting the compression ignition internal combustion engine 1 and engine rotation speed of the compression ignition internal combustion engine 1 is increased by burning the premixed gas.
