An automobile has a body with a doorframe column. The column supports a hinge with a main part (S) fixed to the column and a second side-arm part attached to the door. The side-arm part has a socket (13) for a spigot (5) and sleeve (6). The column section is a sand-cast, mask cast or precision cast metal component. The metal is cast iron or thixo-aluminium.
